Originally opened in 1850 but modified a number of times since then, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the official church of the Archdiocese of Mobile. Its main attractions are the stunning 12 stained-glass windows, designed and constructed in Germany, that depict scenes from the New Testament. Containing a crypt where many important bishops are buried, the cathedral lies three blocks northwest of Spanish Plaza.
