This review is for the Gulf Shores location. This place is absurd,My family and I have been twice and will NEVER return. The Sushi is decent at its best,The (cheap) basic rolls are the smallest I have ever had and they must be so ashamed by the prices of the (special) rolls that they dont even list the prices.I ordered the Mt Fuji Roll and was robbed,It was 6 small pieces of California Roll with some (basic) Baked Seafood on top.Once the bill arrived I realized this was $18.00.First visit was $160.00 for 4 and 2nd visit was 120.00 for 2.The service could only be enjoyed if you enjoy being entirely ignored by some Tila Tequila wannabe waitress. You can spend $160.00 in Sushi and still be ignored unless you are ordering Bar Drinks.Forget this trap and go th Daruma in Daphne or Yamato in Pensacola for the Best Sushi and Service you will ever get anywhere.

I must start off and say that I have known Makado for years now and after a recent visit I feel compelled to share my experience. Everything there has definitely gone downhill. The food is the only thing that holds somewhat steady. It is certainly a fun atmosphere as a hibachi steak house, BUT the waitstaff is appalling. We went for a friend's birthday and decided to sit in the section only for Sushi on a basic tuesday night. There was only one other table filled there. Our server was GINA and I have never ever had worse service than hers. I was once a server in a past and I know how frustrating it can be sometimes, but we were nothing but pleasant with her. However, she was nothing but rude to us. She overcharged us on items, spilled one of our drinks and charged us to refill it, AND on top of that charged our birthday girl $7.00 to sing, bring some fruit and souvenir chopsticks. We had only asked if they sing and she neglected to say you had to pay for it. When we asked what the charge was for she accused us of being "rude." I have never written a review of anywhere, so I hope you understand how terrible it was with GINA. (The food is still good though!)

It was a nice place. It really deserves 3.5 stars. They don't have the famous "Yum Yum" (White Sauce), but the chef made the extra effort and had one of the waitress' prepare a little different version of the salad dressing for me to have. This made me feel pretty good and it made me far happier than I would have been had I not had the sauce. Everything was cooked pretty well, the other reviews are right on the money about waiting for your drinks though. We aware the only table our waitress had, and it took over 20 minutes to get the drinks for our table which is absolutely ridiculous. Like I said though, the chef was good, and even though it wasn't cooked exactly as I prefer, I can't base the review off of that due to other people liking food cooked differently. All in all, a nice place, but not the best. However, I've been to far worse, so its definitely not bad either. I would probably go again if I did not find a better place in the area.

Normally I would not go to a Hibachi grill for lunch thinking it would take too long. However, a couple of my co-workers and I decided to try it out. They were great. We were in and out, full and back to work within an hour. And the food was great! Now we eat there at least once a week for lunch.
